Does Having More Sex Equal A Happier Marriage?

Studies show that having more sex makes you more likely to have a happy marriage. However, is this really true in all cases?

When times get difficult in your marriage, a universal way through has always been proven to be intercourse.

Although sex can at times be empty, a chore and even uneventful for some, it can also be an incredibly beautiful and sensual act of deep connection between two people.

For this reason, it can be one of the best ways to keep your marriage healthy and in turn, happy.

A study done in the University of Chicago on this very theory showed “There’s a strong relationship between rating your marriage as happy and frequency of intercourse” Tom W. Smith said.

“What we can’t tell you,” continued Smith, “is…whether people who are happy in their marriage have sex more, or whether people who have sex more become happy in their marriages, or a combination of those two.”

In my opinion, the two go hand in hand. If you are happier, you have more sex and if you’re having more sex chances are you are happier. As a mum of four, sex is almost an escapism. It is being me and not being mum for a little window. It is critically important for me to remember who I was before becoming a mommy. I adore my kids, but I like to be me sometimes too. That is allowed.

In my opinion, happier parents are happier children so a healthy relationship with your partner and a healthy sex life is an investment in itself.

Here are some reasons why regular sex makes for a happier marriage:

You will never have the same sex drive

Very rarely do a couple have the same sex drive. In reality, one person in the relationship may have a slighter higher sex drive than their partner.

There will always be times where one person wants to have sex more than the other. In this situation, compromises have to be made. The partner with the higher drive may want to expect a little less and vice versa to keep the relationship happy.

In this case, ‘maintenance sex’ can be a compromise. It helps for one partner to not always feel hounded every time and the other feeling unloved and unwanted at the thought of rejection.

You will never regret having sex with your partner

A bit like going to the gym, sometimes you think you are not in the mood and then when you get there you remember why you love it and after you always feel amazing.  Of course, if this is the only way you and your partner ever have sex then there may be a bigger issue and you should seek some advice from a professional.

It scientifically means intimacy

Orgasms releases the love hormone Oxytocin, aka the feel-good hormone. Sex automatically makes you feel closer to your partner. It is the most intimate act that you and your partner can ever experience.

There is no denying that relationships and an active sex life take work. It takes a commitment every day to put the work in. Having regular sex will remind you both what you mean to one another. If needs be, schedule sex in. The more you have it the happier you will be, trust me.
