The Best Family Halloween Movies And Where To Watch Them

The witching hour is almost upon us, meaning that there's a high chance your little monsters will want to watch something a little spooky.

With so much choice out there these days, we've decided to throw it back for a mostly classic selection of the best family Halloween movies perfect for watching while hiding underneath the duvet.

Hopefully, your little terrors will get a scream out of watching these titles - but don't worry, there's nothing too scary that they'll be wanting to share the bed with you for the next week!

'Hocus Pocus' | Disney+

Sistaaaaaas, what other movie is there to start with? One that will always go down as one of the most essential family Halloween movies (or even without your little ones to entertain) is this comedy/horror-light adventure starring the wonderfully comedic timing of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. There's a sequel in the works - so get watching this before we're all consumed by that next year. Watch out for spooky screenings of 'Hocus Pocus' in your local cinemas this October too.

'The Addams Family' | Netflix

Whichever your 'Addams Family' poison is, be sure to head over to Netflix to watch three different movies about the unhinged family and their creepy mansion. Both of the early '90s movies are there to see, and so is the 2019 animation which proved to be very popular. Plus, once you've seen all three, why not go to the cinema to watch the new animated release 'The Addams Family 2'.

'Scooby-Doo!' | Sky Cinema & NOW

With Netflix all covered in the 'Addams Family' corner, Sky Cinema and NOW is where you need to set your peepers to if you're in the mood for everyone's favourite talking canine, Scooby-Doo. Both of the early 2000s live-action movies are available to see, as well as last year's triumphant return of the franchise with the cute and spooky animation 'Scoob!'.

'The Witches' | Amazon Prime

Forget about that rebooted version from 2020, the original is where it's at when it comes to creepy old hags turning innocent little boys into rats. Starring Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch, she and her witchy cronies have hatched an evil plan - but one little boy has a plan of his own in order to stop them.

'The Nightmare Before Christmas' | Disney+

Whether you're a firm believer that this classic musical is a Halloween title or a Christmas title, there's no denying that's its a riot to watch from beginning to end - making it one of the must-see family Halloween movies each year. Join Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, as he leaves his creepy and spooky world of scaring people behind and stumbles upon an all-glowing and all-festive Christmastown. What could possibly go wrong?

'Hotel Transylvania' | Netflix/Amazon Prime/Sky Cinema & NOW

What happens when a vampire, a mummy, an invisible man and a zombie walk into a hotel resort? A lot of hilarious goings-on, it turns out. The first two 'Hotel Transylvania' movies are available to see whether you have a Netflix, an Amazon Prime or a Sky Cinema or NOW subscription, which is great news if you have little monsters of your own that you need to keep entertained.

'Ghostbusters' | Netflix

Last but certainly not least scariest, it's the '80s classic to end all '80s classics. The original 'Ghostbusters' is available to stream on Netflix right now, and it sees a group of scientists wage a high-tech battle with the supernatural beings haunting New York City. The cast of Bill Murray, Dan Akyroyd, Annie Potts and many more have ensured this terrifying classic is here to stay.
