Expect plenty more Oompa Loompas, Willy Wonka, Matilda and many more characters from the Roald Dahl universe to hit our Netflix screens in the future.
"Oompa Loompa doopido doo, Netflix has got some Roald Dahl treats in store for you!" That's right, the streaming giant who has kept us and our little ones entertained for so long, has clinched a huge deal that sees it take over the entire works of the famed children's author.
In a deal believed to be worth a staggering $1 million, Netflix will be bringing a whole selection of new productions to the screen in the coming years. With 19 productions already believed to be on the agenda, it's great news for both young and old as the possibilities could potentially be endless.
Already in production are two animated children's series from the hardest-working creator in Hollywood at the minute, Taika Waititi ('Jojo Rabbit', 'Thor: Ragnarok'). The New Zealand director has one series based on 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' in store for us, with another based on Willy Wonka's pint-sized helpers, the Oompa Loompas.
Also due to be released in the future is 'Matilda: The Musical', which is inspired by Dahl's original book, the stellar '90s movie, and the hit Broadway and West End musical. One of our favourite actors, Emma Thompson, is lined up to play the evil Miss Trunchbull. This is one we can't wait to see!
The Netflix plan is to have a number of live-action films and TV series, animations, games, immersive experiences, live theatre and more be included in the deal - meaning the possibilities are endless.
Which title would you like to see Netflix muster up from Roald Dahl's extensive library? One that we certainly would love to see is an adaptation of 'The Twits' - oh what horrible characters they are!
Until we hear about more titles that are in the pipeline, here's a song that's going to get stuck in your head for the remainder of the day.
