When your little one starts school, most classes start a message group and within the first few weeks are planning a mums night out in the near future.
Many wince at the thought of a mums night out, others may have busy lives and smaller children at home and it is just genuinely not convenient.
But it is an important part of your child starting school, getting to know the other mums. Even if you just go for an hour and show your face, you will have done the hardest bit.
Remember, these mums will remain on your child’s school journey for the next 6-8 years, some for the next 14 years!
Here's why you should make an effort to go on the mums nights out.
You get a break.
Let’s face it when you’re a parent, a trip to the supermarket alone is considered a break! So, take advantage of a night off or even a night off bedtime duty. You might even enjoy yourself!
You get to dress up.
What’s rare is wonderful so why not take advantage of getting all dolled up for the night?
Getting to know some parents can only benefit your little one.
You get to meet new parents and make new friends.
One thing I think is the most important in your parenting survival kit is your ‘tribe’. Other parents to vent with and chat too and not feel like the worst parent in the world.
As we get older, the less likely we are to make new friends. Here is a great opportunity to make a new friend, with at least one thing already in common.
You know who your child is going home with.
Along with starting school starts the endless playdates. But if you actually stop and think, you don’t really know these parents at all. Getting to know some parents can only benefit your little one.
You won't feel left out at pick up.
In some schools, the yard can be more intimidating for the mums than the children. Thankfully, that’s not the norm but it can be an isolated feeling when you don’t have any other mum you can chit chat with at the school pick up.
