How To Get Back Into The Swing Of Things After Christmas

It was a grand run, wasn’t it? But now it’s over and we can’t help but feel a little sad that it went by so quickly but as it is said, ‘thank you for the memories.’

Getting back into the swing of things can be hard to do especially when we have spent the last two weeks eating well and being merry, but it doesn’t have to be too trying.

Here are some good tips on how to get back into the swing of things after Christmas:

Go gently.

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you find you are tired and not with it while you are adjusting to the back to work and back to school schedules. It is best to go easy on yourself and ease into everything if possible, but this may not be possible if you have loads of kids and a heavy workload.

Luckily, you should be happy and relaxed after the break so this means you’ll be able to look at the things that need to be done with a fresh eye. 

Bring back the routine.

No one wants to go back to the usual routine as hanging out in bed till 10 am was joyous and not worrying about homework and school lunches was the best, but now you must get back to it and embrace the routine.

This means back to bed early, organised kids and plans! Being organised may not be something you want to do but starting well will get you off to the right start.

If your family are feeling a little deflated you could start looking at the things you are looking forward to this year.

Chat to the kids.

The kids may find it harder than you and will not find it nice to be dragged out of the beds early again but have a chat and let them know how great Christmas was but now you must get back into the swing of things.

If they are old enough, they’ll understand and go through the good things about getting back into things with seeing school friends, after school activities and you know, Easter is coming soon too!

Of course, you’ll find they are a little moodier in the days of early mornings again but be patient with them and try to understand as it is just a case of the back to school blues!

Look forward.

If your family are feeling a little deflated you could start looking at the things you are looking forward to this year. It could be a family holiday which you could start organising with the kids or a few family occasions.

You may have a communion, wedding or confirmation and these are all fun events to look forward to. It’s important to have something to aspire to and something to look forward to for all the family, even if it is little things like promising the kids ice cream on the weekend after their first week back to school.

Try and make plans for each month to have something to do and ask your kids for ideas on places they want to see. 

After Christmas can be a hard time for all, but a new year is here so try and enjoy it!
