Not everyone likes change. I adore it, especially within my home. I love the feeling of everything around me appearing new and fresh.
When a space feels revived, creative, and, if possible, more functional than before, it’s almost like cleansing and decluttering our minds once we rejuvenate the space around us. But restyling our homes can be expensive. A new rug here, a couple of throw cushions there, and a faux plant to add a little bit of the outdoors to the dark corner that no actual plant would thrive in. All of these things add up, and suddenly your zero budget redesign eats into your credit card. If you’re looking to remodel your home without spending a penny, then look no further than our top five tips.
1: Rearrange The Furniture
The most straightforward fix for a quick and free room makeover is rearranging the furniture. When it comes to our style, there are no rules. The suite of furniture does not need to point towards the TV, the coffee table can be eclectic or modern, and a room can have more than one layered rug. Think about what you want to use the space for, how the furniture makes you feel and set your own rules when moving the furniture to freshen up the room.
2: Switch Out The Pictures
Photos, artwork, even frames can be renewed by sorting them out in a different and fresh manner. Switch the pictures in frames and rearrange your gallery wall for a new and vibrant feel. Change how you display them by adding some of your favourite prints to a picture ledge that is no longer used, and if a frame no longer appeals, it may very well suit a different picture in a separate room.
3: Restyle Your Shelves
Shelves can very quickly become stagnant as we either keep them exactly as they were the day we filled the shelves up, or they’ve become cluttered and pointless. Carefully select the items on your shelves that bring you passion and restyle every shelf in a way that rejuvenates the room. When the clutter is gone, remember that less is more. As with the art prints, some of our pieces could better suit another spot in our home.
4: Create Mood Lighting
The nights are getting shorter now, meaning our lights are not on as much, but we can still create ambient mood lighting for the hours of dusk. Reposition floor lamps and table lamps to create those warm spots of lighting as the evenings grow dark.
5: Rethink Your Home
Restyling on a zero budget means getting creative with your choices, so rethink your home in new and unique ways. Divide up your room for its different uses, swap out cushions from another room, reposition rugs, declutter, and use furniture such as stools and ottomans in fresh ways. Most importantly, create your own rules.
