We love having healthy snacks to hand and hummus works brilliantly in this way. The chickpeas give it great filling power as they are packed with protein. This is especially helpful for children who do not have a love of meat (or for vegetarian families). It can be served in a variety of different ways too. Why not substitute your regular butter or mayonnaise for a much healthier hummus spread alternative? It works really well as a dinner condiment too. Salmon, roast vegetables and a big dollop of hummus is a favourite in our house!

Method

Time needed: 5 minutes.

  1. Create the hummus.

In a blender; put in ½ can of chickpeas, 1 clove of garlic, 2 tbsp of natural yoghurt, 1 tbsp of olive oil, 1 squeeze of lemon juice, 1 pinch of salt, and 1 pinch of smoked paprika.

When hummus is the focal point of a dish we are more likely to reach for healthy snacks such as cucumber sticks and crunchy slices of peppers. They are the perfect accompaniment.
