10 Things I've Learnt About Parenting Since Becoming A Mum

It doesn't matter how many children you have every day is a school day. Not one day has gone by that I haven’t learned something new about parenting. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, from love and happiness to what the hell. Here are some of the things I've learnt since becoming a mum.

It doesn't matter how many children you have every day is a school day. Not one day has gone by that I haven’t learned something new about parenting. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, from love and happiness to what the hell. Here are some of the things I've learnt since becoming a mum.
  • Snax, custard creams, and ice cream are not the devil. They could be the answer to world peace.
  • I strongly believe Multimam compresses, Calpol and strong coffee should be completely free and available to every parent – morning, noon or night.
  • It doesn’t matter how tired you are they will still jump on you, hide under their bed, be really loud and refuse to nap or sleep.
  • Counting to three will be your most commonly used phrase and it does absolutely nothing. It's like a game when they turn three years of ages. I'm convinced they plot between themselves to see who I can say it to the most.
  • Trampolines are life. Once you close those hooks, the back door and blare the radio you can easily get a good hour to yourself.
  • Cheerio’s should come with a "find me in your bra, bed, forehead, and nappy" warning label.
  • Babies and toddlers will never perform on call. Nobody will ever believe you that they can clap hands, wave bye, high-five or say a new word.
  • Dogs are an essential part of weaning and dinner time with toddlers. I'm convinced they deliberately throw their food on the floor just to drive me up the wall. It saves me a fortune on dog food in fairness.
  • Children get an inhumane burst of energy just before bedtime almost every night. There's no night train up the stairs in my house. More like let's climb the walls and drive mammy insane!
  • There are a million and one ways to parent, everyone will have an opinion (even your own mammy) but really, the only one that matters is your own.
