Why Is Everyone Talking About This Viral Whipped Coffee Trend?

This whipped coffee is taking the online world by storm, and it only uses three ingredients.

It's safe to say that since spending more time at home, a lot of us have been putting our efforts into cooking and baking more often than usual, or maybe attempting to for the very first time. With that comes lots of viral recipe trends - like this whipped or 'dalgona coffee' trend.

If you (or your child!) has a TikTok account, you've probably seen this one do the rounds recently. Coffee-lovers everywhere have been trying this delicious new method of making their morning coffee, and it's gone completely viral.

The recipe calls for just three ingredients - two teaspoons of instant coffee, two teaspoons of sugar and two teaspoons of boiling water. Whisk for a few minutes (or use an electric whisk if you don't want your arm to fall off) and voilĂ , gorgeously thick and creamy whipped coffee!

According to the Hong Kong Tatler:

"Dalgona coffee is inspired by the South Korean dalgona candy, a toffee sponge that resembles the creamy dollop that tops the ice coffee."

Searching "whipped coffee" on TikTok brings up thousands of videos of people making the drink, with some videos reaching over 1.7 million likes - showing the huge popularity of the trend.

You can then serve the whipped coffee with hot or cold milk of your choice. We love ours with cold oat milk and some ice cubes thrown in for a fabulous iced coffee drink that you can enjoy right through the summer months. Who needs Starbucks when you can get this Insta-worthy beverage from the comfort of your own home?
