This Fridge Contract Will Save You A Lot Of Arguments

A dad has come up with a brilliant way to ensure his kids are well behaved for the most part – a fridge contract.

Parenting is a tough gig. Kids are unpredictable and often unruly, and it can be exhausting pulling them up on their behaviour all the time.

However, one dad has come up with a brilliant way to ensure his kids are well behaved for the most part – a fridge contract.

The idea was invented by father-of-one Ben Brooks-Dutton, who got his son to sign a contract which now sits pride of place on the fridge door.

Posting the contract to Twitter, Ben, who has almost 20 years’ experience in PR, said that it is “one of the most effective forms of constructive communication”.

By getting his son, Jack, to sign the contract, Ben has forced him to always to consider his actions because ‘breaches of contract’ will have repercussions.

So, what exactly is on the contract?
  • Saying no immediately to things he’s asked to do by an adult
  • Telling people to shut up
  • Being rude
  • Ignoring instructions, especially before school
  • Shouting at adults
  • Acting spoil when he doesn’t get his own way
What do you think of the contract? As a parent myself, it is definitely something I’ll be giving a go, especially over the summer holidays when kids can get very forgetful about what is considered appropriate behaviour and what isn’t.
