This week grocery store Lidl will be stocking a range of sensory products in support of World Autism Day including state-of-the-art ear defenders and an LED projection night light.
World Autism Day is an internationally recognised day dedicated to educating people around the globe, raising awareness about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Now in its twelfth year, World Autism Day takes place April 2nd.
In a bid to support communities across Ireland, Lidl will be selling ear defenders suitable for children 6 months and older. Priced at €12.99 each and available in black, blue and pink - the ear defenders have a variety of settings to protect your child’s hearing or help calm them if disturbed in noisy environments.
Other sensory products include a musical night light which can be used for visual or audible sensory stimulation. The Music & Starry Sky Nightlight projects colourful stars to ceilings and walls play rhythmic music and show the date and time.
Also in store tomorrow, Lidl will be selling a Melinera Illuminated Salt Crystal Ball Lamp (€19.99). Aimed to create a soothing environment, the four massage spheres heated through the lamp can be used to massage the hands, feet, back or neck.
Helping to encourage imagination and creativity, other sensory products include a sand and water table costing €29.99 and various wooden puzzles priced at €3.99 each helping.
Last year on World Autism Day Lidl rolled out Autism friendly quiet evenings across Lidl Ireland stores nationwide every Tuesday between 6pm and 8pm. Crowded spaces, bright lights and sudden noises can sometimes cause sensory overload to those with Autism so during this time all stores reduce lighting, turned off music, ban in-store announcements, lower the sound on till machines and give priority to customers queuing with children with autism. They also offer extra assistance upon request.

This year the popular low-cost supermarket announced they will be sponsoring two assistance dogs to put them through training with Assistance Dogs Northern Ireland (ADNI) and Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland (AADI). Trained to meet the needs of both children with Autism and their families, the two dogs Kyra and Yogi will be given to families of children with Autism in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
