7 good reasons why you should have a babyshower

Originally an American tradition they are fast becoming popular over here and why not!

I have been asked this question by a lot of pregnant friends. A family member has suggested throwing them a baby shower and they are completely on the fence about the idea. Some do not want the attention drawn to them while others feel that it may come across as a bit mean given the fact that people generally show up with a present for the mum-to-be.
A baby-shower can be a really positive experience. Here are seven reasons why having a baby shower is a very good thing.
  • You are not being mean. The people coming to your baby shower are probably close friends and family. These are people who would ordinarily want to pick you up a present for the baby anyway. Having a baby shower formalises this in a way and makes it a really memorable way of them gifting you with something.
  • You deserve some cake and laughs. Really it is that simple. Pregnancy is not a walk in the park for many of us. You might be dealing with aches and pains as well as holding down a job and keeping your home afloat. An afternoon of treats, games and laughs with those you love most is a lovely way to unwind and give yourself some fun.
  • People want to celebrate. I don't know about you but I love a good party. Being invited to a baby-shower is a really lovely experience. It is such a fun and girly experience. Chances are that your friends and family will be delighted to receive an invite.
  • It is an excuse to get a lot of women from different generations in to one room. When else would your mum, aunts, cousins, friends and babies all combine to celebrate something during the day? It is a lovely atmosphere where mothers from various backgrounds and generations can give advice and swap stories of pregnancy and motherhood.
  • It emphasises that you are not alone. Pregnancy and motherhood can often feel like a lonely time. Having a baby shower highlights all of the people who are there for you and willing to support you at this time. It is another feel-good factor.
  • Once you have your baby most events and parties will be centred around your little darlings. Why not enjoy an event that is about you?
  • There is very little planning involved. A couple of balloons, some baked goods and a game or two. It is a very low-maintenance party from the planning perspective.
If a family member is offering to throw you a baby shower why not take them up on the offer? You will look back on the photographs with fondness and remember it as a really positive experience.
