We all want our kids to grow up to be confident, and these books may help with that.
It's safe to say that most parents would like their children to grow up with an inner confidence that they can carry with them throughout their lives. Giving them inspiring role models in the shows they watch, the movies they enjoy and the books they read really help with this.

JULIAN IS A MERMAID by JESSICA LOVE
We've talked about this one before and for good reason. This book is a stunning tale about a little boy who sees three women dressed as mermaids while on his way home with his grandmother. When he gets home, he cannot wait to create his own mermaid costume, but what will his grandmother think? This is a gorgeous story for teaching children about acceptance, self-love and what it means to be unconditionally loved for who you are.
QUEEN OF THE SKIES written by EOIN COLFER illustrated by KATY HALFORD MARIELLA
Mariella loves nothing more than inventing - if only she never had to go to sleep and could keep inventing new things all night long! When mum and dad won't agree to let her skip bedtime, she knows exactly what to do. Mariella decides to invent a flying machine that will zap her around the world before the sun has time to catch up. But doesn't everyone need sleep? Mariella's confidence and passion to do what she loves radiates from the pages of this book.
THE KOALA WHO COULD written by RACHEL BRIGHT illustrated by JIM FIELD
This little book is a bestseller on Amazon and we can totally see why. This is a gorgeous story about a young koala, Kevin, who must learn to overcome fear and worry and deal with the change that has come into his life. This is difficult for Kevin as he is the kind of koala who likes to keep things the same - the exact same. But pretty soon, he learns that magical things happen when you venture outside of your comfort zone.
BALLERINA DREAMS written by MICHAELA and ELAINE DEPRINCE illustrated by ELLA OKSTAD
This beautiful book written by Michaela and Elaine DePrince and illustrated by Ella Okstad is based on a true story. At the age of three, Michaela saw a photo of a ballerina while living in an orphanage in Sierra Leone. She never forgot the special photo, and when she was soon adopted and brought to America, she was inspired to chase her dream of becoming a ballerina. Children's Books Ireland says:
"With beautiful illustrations, which highlight Michaela’s sheer joy and dedication to dance, Ballerina Dreams is a true, inspirational story, championing the rights of black dancers and girls in general, and touching on themes of difference, including Michaela’s skin condition, vitiligo."
CLARICE BEAN, THAT’S ME written by LAUREN CHILD
The Clarice Bean series is a must-read for any child growing up. Although the main woman is a little mischievous and opinionated, her confidence and self-belief shine through the pages, making her a fantastic role model.
