We have some great ideas for throwing a birthday party from your home and we hope they will inspire you to enjoy the day despite your original plans being interrupted.

Birthdays are such a special time of year for people of all ages. They are the highlight of the year when you are a child though. Children have been known to talk about their birthdays for about 364 days ahead of the big day. Their little world revolves around the next "number" they get to use. Unfortunately Covid-19 may have completely ruined the long-awaited birthday plans for this year.

Like most aspects of life right now we have to be really creative when it comes to how we celebrate birthdays during this time of social distancing. As birthdays come along we want to mark the occasion with some form of a celebration while still following the very strict and necessary guidelines that have been instructed by our government.

We have some great ideas for throwing a birthday party from your home and we hope they will inspire you to enjoy the day despite your original plans being interrupted.

Plan A Family Party

Social distancing guidelines have determined that we can only spend time with those people we live with. Why not throw a little party at home for your little one? If you are shopping online you could order a cake and some goodies ahead of time. Alternatively you could throw a themed birthday party. Get the glad rags on (parents included) and have a little disco, craft party or family board game championship. All of this can go hand in hand with bowls of goodies and some kind of a cake. You could even make party hats like these ones.

Throw A Netflix Party

We love the idea of watching something at the same time as those we love. It feels like we are connected. We're laughing, crying and puzzled by the same scenes as though we are at the movies together. Why not plan a Netflix movie party? Choose the movie, decide on a time that suits everyone and of course tasty snacks are compulsory. This could work well with a children's movie but is also a great way for adults to reconnect with their friends (and a cheeky glass of wine, of course. It is our birthday after all).

Throw A Zoom Party

Everyone is talking about zoom. It has become a popular alternative for in-person courses, conferences and lessons all around the world during this time. Why not have a little zoom party for your little one? They'll love seeing their friends "in person" and it will be a total novelty. Of course you'll have to liaise with their parents but that is part of the fun. Everyone can give the birthday kid a special message and sing happy birthday to them. They'll never forget this birthday.

Start A Birthday Hashtag

It's not just the kids who are missing out on birthday celebrations. It's parents too. Why not find a unique hashtag and suggest that everyone uses it to celebrate the birthday girl or guy. You can set the task of posting photos of good times you've shared together as well as some birthday greetings that will make you smile.

Have A Birthday Sleepover

Sometimes the simplest ideas have the greatest impact. Why not let the birthday kid sleep in a different room that night (with their siblings or with their mum for example) or set up camp downstairs and have an exciting camping-themed birthday celebration. We're talking popcorn, a family movie, hot chocolate and lots of family cuddles.

Turn Your Home In To A Nightclub

Do you have a child turning 18 or 21? We came across this hilarious TikTok video and we think it is brilliant. To celebrate their son's 21st birthday they turned their home garage in to "Club Quarantine" with Dad posing as a bouncer and mum as a bartender. Now that is creativity at it's finest.
