Tips to help your teething baby

Babies can become fussy and iritated, waking alot while teething. Here is some advice on how to help them through it.

Babies usually begin teething around the 6 month mark, however teething can begin anytime from 3 months to 12 months. They should have all their teeth by 3 years old.  Usually the two bottom front teeth are the first to appear, followed by the two top front teeth. When babies are teething, it hurts as those little teeth try to push through their gums.
Signs that you baby is teething can be:
  • Dribbling
  • Iritability
  • Chewing their fingers (and anything else in sight!)
  • Sore gums
These symptoms usually begin about 3 to 5 days before the tooth shows, and they disappear as soon as the tooth breaks the skin.
Many babies don't seem to be affected by teething, but if yours is, try these handy tips:
  • Keep teething toys cool in the fridge.  Pop your toys in the fridge to keep them cool. These cold toys provide a numbing effect on the gums. Dont freeze these toys however as that could damage your babies gums.
  • Try solid foods. Once your baby is old enough to try solids, they can be given chilled cucumber or carrot pieces. Be aware however that when you give your baby something to chew it should be large enough not to be a choking hazard.
  • Rub your baby's gums. Using a clean finger, massage your babies gums with a damp cloth or moist gauze. This pressure can ease your baby's discomfort.
  • Wipe the dribble. In order to prevent your babies skin becoming irritated from dribbling. Keep a clean cotton cloth available to keep baby dry.
Be sure to call to see your doctor if your baby's symptoms are very severe or don't get better x
