The Best At-Home New Year's Ideas

Going out on New Year’s Eve was good fun when you could do it but if you can’t go out this year, then it isn’t the end of the world.

There are lots of ways to enjoy New Year’s Eve without having to leave the house.

Here are some New Year’s ideas for when you can’t go out:

Go all out and take out the fancy stuff.

This is the time to take out the fancy plates and crystal (especially if you have been hiding it with the kids around).

Now you should make yourself a lovely meal or get a tasty takeaway but still use the fancy glasses and plates. It just adds some luxury to the evening, and it is a nice way to spend New Year’s when you have kids and can’t go out.

Once they are in bed, settle down for a lovely meal followed by some champagne or whatever you like to drink.

Play games.

There are lots of great games to play and board games are a good way to see a few hours pass by. Of course, you can play some games with the kids and then fake the New Year countdown before popping them into bed so you can play games without worrying about the tantrums but it’s ok if you get mad too as those board games do bring out your competitive side!

Movie or Netflix binge.

There is nothing better than sitting in for a binge-fest of good programmes or movies. Add in some tasty treats (as Christmas is nearly over), a few drinks and you are all sorted. Get some movies you haven’t seen before as this makes it more of a treat or watch a show you have been waiting to watch. Since you’ll be up late on New Year’s Eve, you might as well make the most of it and watch a series in one sitting.

Have friends or family over.

You don’t have to have a big party, but you could have a little gathering with some friends or family to make the most of the night. If everyone has kids, you could invite them over too and let the kids play in one room while the adults have fun!

Hosting parties can be great fun and getting the chance to make some fancy food is another highlight as well as getting to see the new year in with those you love without having to go out in the cold!

Spend the evening planning the next year.

You’ll need a few drinks and an understanding partner for this if you are going to spend the evening making plans. You may want to look at holidays, plan for family occasions or decide on your next career move but whatever it is, this is a good time to think about it.

Get some advice while you bond over your new year plans. Pop on some music and make sure you listen to songs from your youth to remind you of what you have done and how far you have come.
