"Just keep swimming" and you will find swimwear that your kids will give the fins - or should I say thumbs - up to!
It’s not summer just yet, but it’s never too early to start checking out swimsuits and shorts for the family. If you’re lucky enough, you might even be heading away for the Easter holidays this April. To save you spending time trawling the shops, we’ve rounded up all the best kids' swimwear trends for you to add to your basket.
Strawberry Fields Forever
Strawberries are the top fruit in our house, but while I know they taste delicious I’ve never thought of them as being a fashionable print before. This year you can find them adorning swimsuits, bikinis and accessories galore.
Thanks to big movies that have been (or will be) a hit at the box office Spider-Man, Batman and 'Paw Patrol' are frequently seen on this season’s kids’ swimwear. Strangely enough though, Anna and Elsa are also popular which seems odd to me as I’m hoping we’ll be boiling rather than frozen this summer. However, if you’ve got a little 'Frozen' fan in the house, you’ll have no problem kitting them out.
Fascinating fact: Gingham first became fashionable when Brigette Bardot wore a pink and white gingham wedding dress to marry Jacques Charrier in 1959. This summer, while it’s not a popular bridal look, you will find it on girls’ and boys’ swimwear. It looks gorgeous in soft mauve and green and if you convince your kids that it looks cool, they’ll be bang on-trend.
If you grew up in the ‘90s like me, no doubt you were obsessed with neon clothing, at least for a little while. Well, it’s back with a vengeance! So, if your kids like bright colours, and standing out, they’re sure to love their swimwear with pops of orange, green and pink.
Last year, sunshine yellow was the shade that we all craved to give us a boost, but this year dark yellow is where it’s at for both boys and girls. Find shorts, swimsuits and accessories left, right and centre in this shade. It also coordinates beautifully with brown so your kids will be left looking bee-utiful!
High Protection And Recycled Polyester
Sun protection products are essential to slather on every day, but if their swimwear is made from a sun smart fabric too, then that’s an added bonus. In addition, we’re all doing whatever we can to be more environmentally friendly and it’s great to see so many clothes made from recycled polyester. I’m sure Nemo and Dory would be very pleased that we’re reusing plastic bottles instead of dumping them in the ocean!
