How To Enjoy Date Nights While You Are Pregnant

Date nights are a great way to reconnect with your partner. Life is busy and even when you live with someone it can be difficult to find quality time to catch up and enjoy each other. Work, kids and domestic life can leave little time to make it happen.

Date nights are a great way to reconnect with your partner. Life is busy and even when you live with someone it can be difficult to find quality time to catch up and enjoy each other. Work, kids and domestic life can leave little time to make it happen. It is important to try to make it happen every so often though. It is nice to simply be a couple and take some time away from everyday life. Enjoying a date night when you are pregnant is a little bit trickier than normal but we hope that these ideas might give you some hope that they can still be a great experience.
Sickness is a huge obstacle so let’s start there. Up to 80% of women experience some form of morning sickness. In milder cases, it may be limited to certain times of the day and may come with no vomiting but in many cases, daily vomiting is a regular occurrence. This can be a really big obstacle when trying to spend time together as a couple. So many date nights involve food and when you are experiencing pregnancy sickness even the smell of food can be enough to send you over the edge. For many women, a date night involving food just won’t be an option. During the first sixteen weeks of pregnancy, you might just consider accepting defeat because simply getting through the day can feel like a victory. The last thing you need is added pressure. Communication levels are more important now than ever. If your partner understands just how much you are struggling they are more likely to adapt their behaviour and attitude to support you. It might mean movie nights without the food and a few more early nights but it is all for a good cause.
If your pregnancy sickness tapers off you could feel on top of the world during your second trimester. Many women note an increase in energy levels and the long-awaited return of their appetite. Foods that you have been actively avoiding are suddenly desirable once again and they have never tasted so good. It also helps that they are being held down rather than a constant flurry of nausea and vomiting. The second trimester is a great opportunity to enjoy the simple pleasure of eating out again. Remember all those places you had to avoid during the first trimester? Make a list of your favourite restaurants and use those as inspiration for date nights. By now you probably also have a gorgeous pregnancy bump that needs showing off. Why not treat yourself to some pretty maternity dresses so you can feel comfortable and confident during these date nights?
During the third trimester, your energy levels may drop a little. As your bump grows bigger you may also experience swelling, heartburn and... the waddle. This can take certain venues off the table because you may only feel comfortable sitting on a certain kind of chair or in a venue that is not populated by loud music and drunk people. There is also a safety concern. You will want to avoid venues where people seem to be constantly spilling their drinks or knocking things over. You have special cargo on board and protecting that growing baby is number one on the priority list. By now you might be choosing loose-fitting clothing and flats or flip-flops so wear whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. You are beautiful.
Have you considered a babymoon? Many couples enjoy a night or two away together during the final trimester. It is a great way to prepare for the impending arrival and life change. It might just make up for the lack of date nights too. Treat yourself to a treatment at the spa, enjoy some delicious food and sleep as much as you like. That’s my kind of date night!
Date nights will definitely change when you are pregnant but it is possible to enjoy some couple-time together if you communicate well and don’t put too much pressure on things.
