We’re sure at least one of your children has something Pokemon-related that they love, so they’ll enjoy seeing their favourite characters on screen for the first time in live-action.

Pokemon, every 90’s kid’s secret fandom, has finally been brought to the big screen in a live-action setting. Gone are the countless cartoon movies and TV series, to be replaced with Ryan Reynolds as a Pokemon who also just so happens to be a problem-solving Detective.

There’s plenty of action on offer, as well as enough Pokemon dotted around on screen to keep every fanboy and fangirl in a competitive mood to find the most Pokemon that they can.

Loosely based on the video game ‘Detective Pikachu’, we see the titular character team up with Tim Goodman on an adventure to solve the disappearance of Tim’s father and Pikachu’s sidekick. While the storyline might be lacking, and might not take a lot of thinking power, it makes no odds to viewers as ‘Pokemon Detective Pikachu’ is a movie with a lot of heart and sucks you right in with its charm. From Jugglypuff’s red-faced embarrassment, to Farfetch’d attacking Tim with a leek when we first meet him, it’s pretty clear anything these Pokemon do will put a smile on your face.

The man of the hour however, is Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu. Although hard to imagine at first, he’s a perfect match – just imagine a child-friendly, cuter version of Deadpool and you’re on the right track. And don’t worry parents, all of Pikachu’s wise-cracks are all PG and (thankfully) very amusing.

Clocking it at around one hour and 45 minutes, the movie is just the right length to keep your wandering child’s attention span long enough too. There’s plenty of action on offer, as well as enough Pokemon dotted around on screen to keep every fanboy and fangirl in a competitive mood to find the most Pokemon that they can – which might be a great idea for when you get the inevitable DVD release this Christmas. While you yourself might not know your Diglett from your Doduo, rest assured that your little ones certainly will. Even ourselves, when we spotted a personal Pokemon favourite, we couldn’t help but let out a squeal of joy at seeing them on screen.

All in all, ‘Pokemon Detective Pikachu’ is a no-brainer for even the most causal of Pokemon fans out there. We’re sure at least one of your children has something Pokemon-related that they love, so they’ll have a ball seeing their favourite characters on screen for the first time in live-action. While the storyline isn’t out of this world engaging for adults, children on the other hand will absolutely love it.
