Pregnancy, for most, is the most amazing time of your life. But, it can also be hard work. With some symptoms like aching joints, back pain, and swollen feet it can sometimes leave you feeling uncomfortable. Do you and your bump need a little TLC? Why not treat yourself to a safe and relaxing treatment?
Pregnancy massage is one of my personal favourites. Many women suffer from back pain during pregnancy due to all the extra weight and strain the baby can put on your body. Getting a relaxing massage can help to soothe those aches and pains. It is recommended that you get a massage from an established massage therapist who is specifically trained in prenatal massage.
- If you are four months pregnant or more lying flat on your back is not recommended. Being in this position can result in pressure being put on important blood vessels. A qualified pregnancy masseuse will work around this working from one side to the other instead.
- Ensure the therapist uses unscented lotions or oils as some aromatherapy oils have been known to cause contractions.
- Consider getting reflexology therapy. This is when pressure is applied to certain areas of the feet, hands, and ears; it is great for swollen, tired feet and for reducing stress levels. Your therapist should be experienced in performing reflexology on pregnant women because pressure applied to certain areas may also trigger contractions.
- Botox and fillers are not recommended when pregnant. Saunas, steam rooms, and whirlpools are also not recommended. Anything that increases your body temperature is off-limits during pregnancy.
Stay well away from abrasive treatments such as microdermabrasion as this will be far too harsh on your delicate skin at this time. You should also avoid aromatherapy, chemical peels and hot stones, instead opt for more relaxing and less invasive treatment. Facials we recommend are Hydrating facials or deep-cleansing facials perfect for your pregnancy skin. Save the other treatments for after you have the baby! And remember if you can afford it, beauty treatments are a great way to relax both body and mind during pregnancy, and ladies we deserve it!
