Summer is always the time when most of us suddenly remember we have feet! They have been hidden away in winter boots and warm socks for months and just like that they are back out and we want them Summer ready immediately!
It’s not always feasible to go to a salon for a pedicure. And let’s face it not all of us even like our feet, so the thought of somebody touching them gives us the fear! But it is easy to do a home pedicure, you might even get to read your book too!
Here are some tips to get your feet summer ready from the comfort of your own home:
  • The first thing you need to do is smooth the hard, dry skin that builds up over the winter especially around the heels. Use a hard skin remover before or after a shower to buff your feet. Maybe weekly pedicures aren't in your budget, but getting one at the end of winter is a good idea. It'll set you up for taking care of your feet on your own, without the daunting task of filing off eight layers of dead winter skin. Once your feet feel human again, you'll be more inclined to keep them that way.
  • Keep them super soft. Lather up your feet with Vaseline, or any other thick moisturiser, paying attention to the heels and the balls of your feet. Pop on some socks and leave overnight. The moisture will really lock in and help your dry spots. Do this a couple times a week to keep them feeling lovely.
  • You should be washing your feet every day, especially if you’ve been wearing sandals or open-toed shoes. Use a nail brush to clean under your nails and brush away dead skin.
  • Exfoliate the skin by gently massaging a foot scrub to your feet to remove any dead skin cells.
  • Keep nails short and tidy by using nail clippers, then use a nail file to soften the edges and buff out any ridges. It is also a good idea to learn how to properly cut your toenails. Cut them straight across and file down the sharp edges. Cutting or filling them rounded will only lead to ingrown toe nails or other issues.
  • Apply a cuticle oil to keep them soft, and use a foot nourishing cream every day to help keep your feet moisturised.
  • Don’t forget to add some polish to your toenails for the perfect summer look. Make a statement to your toes with bright colours and some glitter, stickers or crystals.
