Autumn is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite season. The crunchy leaves, the crisp fresh air and the rainbow of colour across each and every street. It makes me want to get out and about with my little army of people, to make the most of the weather before muddy puddle season falls at our feet. Because let’s face, it’s going to be a long one this year.

If you’re looking for some inspiration on ways to entertain the whole family this autumn, we have rounded up some of our favourite seasonal to-dos to help keep the family active, engaged and most of all happy. Here are our autumn bucket list ideas for the coming months:

  • Forage for the last of the blackberries should be the top of your autumn bucket list.
  • Go pumpkin picking at a pumpkin patch or even at your local grocery store.
  • Create a list of everything you are grateful for.
  • Go for a hike in a forest you have never explored before.
  • Light up your porch with a jack-o-lantern by getting creative and carving your pumpkins.
  • Have colcannon and mash with treasure for dinner and if you don't know what that is, ask your grandparents.
  • Make a bird feeder out of pinecones or toilet paper holders.
  • Make caramel or toffee apples and decorate them with orange sprinkles. 
  • Go bobbing for apples or play snap apple.
  • Roast your pumpkin seeds and make a delicious recipe. 
  • Bundle up and have a duvet day and watch some Halloween classics such as Hocus Pocus or The Goonies.
  • Play with sparkles and fun snaps. 
  • Swap scary stories alfresco by the fire or under the duvet with a flashlight.

  • Go on a nature walk and experience the colours of autumn and sure while you’re at it, collect some leaves and make an autumn wreath. 
  • Make slimy jelly worms.
  • Visit an orchard and pick a big bucket of apples.

  • Shake the biggest chestnut tree and see how many conkers you can find.
  • Decorate Halloween cookies.
  • Go for a walk around your neighbourhood and see how many pumpkins you can find.
  • Plant some bulbs in the garden for spring.
  • Spookify your house and pimp it out with Halloween decorations. 
  • Enjoy a Harry Potter movie marathon.
  • Make a scarecrow out the backyard.
  • Hide some hazelnuts in trees in your local park for the resident squirrels. 
  • Make homemade apple sauce for the school lunches. 
  • Visit a graveyard or a haunted house and get spooked. 
  • Jump in a massive pile of leaves. No matter how old you are, it never gets old.
  • Toast marshmallows over a fire pit.
  • Go old school and play a traditional game of conkers.
