Kids have been spending less time than ever in school uniform and adults aren’t the only ones who have been favouring loungewear while they’re at home. Comfort is key, but far from being boring, the latest children’s clothes from high street brands are bright, bold and beautiful.

This spring/summer, fashion trends for kids clothes will be environmentally friendly, casual and comfortable. The Pantone colour of the year is a duo of Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow which signify strength and hope for the year ahead and while grey is a great base colour for kids clothes, no doubt yellow will be the stand-out shade.

Clothes made from recycled and organic materials are increasingly popular. Along with all the colourful clothes on offer, there will also be lots of natural tones such as charcoal, caramel, taupe and beige. Popular textiles for the year ahead will include organic cotton and linen because of their sustainability.

It’s positive to see that many brands don’t divide their clothes by gender anymore and that there are many unisex options available. Even when there is a "boys" and a "girls" section, there are a bigger variety of styles available. Boys aren’t limited to masculine shades and the girls to feminine colours.

While we’re used to seeing positive slogans all over social media, we are increasingly seeing them on items of clothing. There are lots of kids tops out this season featuring friendly and uplifting messages. They’re sure to put a spring in their step.

Dressing siblings up in matching outfits is no longer cringe-worthy and is actually one of the bang-on fashion trends for kids. You won’t need to look hard to come across pieces with "big brother" or "little sister" etched across them. Or, you can simply select two (or three or four) of the same style in different sizes. If you’re feeling left out, you can even get "mini me" outfits for mother and daughter, or father and son. Mother and son, or father and daughter should be options too though!

As above, matching family outfits aren’t just for Christmas. "Fancy dress" isn’t just for Halloween. Playing dress-up is a great pastime for kids when they’re bored. As we’re spending more time at home, there’s no reason why they can’t wear their outfits from breakfast until bedtime. This spring/summer they may just decide to be superheroes!
