These clever items are not the most obvious, but will make all the difference (we promise!)

There’s plenty of information out there on the standard list of things to put in your maternity bag, but what about those extras that you might not have thought about that will make all the difference?

Check out these very handy but not so obvious items:

Facial Wipes
There is something about being in a hospital that makes us want to wash our face a lot. Those handy facial cleansing cloths will be your best friend when you want to clean up but don't actually want to get up to do it!

Dry Shampoo
Ladies, trust me on this. If you’ve never tried this before – please do! It’ll work for the hospital and post baby too (you’re "you time" becomes less frequent). Dry Shampoo comes in handy in the hospital so you can freshen up your hair if you only want to take a shower without actually washing your hair.

A Fluffy Towel
Hospital towels are; well: small and scratchy. Bringing your own bath towel will help make sure your first post birth shower more comfortable.

Flip-Flops
All the lists have the slippers, but you’ll be happy you brought your flip-flops. They're perfect for use in the shower (if shower floors that you’ve not scrubbed clean yourself freak you out).

Toilet Paper
It might sound a little strange, but hospitals are not known for their luxurious toilet paper and because your lady parts might be a bit on the sensitive side, there is no harm in bringing your own soft roll.

A Phone Charger
Seriously, don't forget to pack your phone charger! #baby-mama-selfies!

Chapstick
Hospitals zap all the moisture out of your lips upon admission — it’s instant!

Cash/Change
Chances are at some stage ‘someone’ is going to want a snack and the coffee shop will be closed. Or… you might rather skip the hospital food entirely! Befriending the vending machine might be your only option!
A Bag in a Bag
You will leave the hospital with more stuff than you came with- guaranteed. Bring an extra bag for all the random stuff you’re going to acquire!
Makeup
I know, I know. You just pushed a human being out-  who cares how you look in pictures with your newborn? You will. For the rest of your life. Afterwards!

Food
You’re going to be starving. Bring in some of the stuff you haven’t been able to eat in 9 months. And, make sure to lock it from your husband. He’s eaten enough.

Headband
When there’s work to be done, it’s best to have your hair out of your face.

Pen and paper
There’ll be note taking required. Pack one so you can jot it all down. Baby brain’s going to kick in and you will not remember the specifics!

Extra pillow
If you are anything like me you need a little height (bring one with a case that’s distinguishable from hospital white)

Have you any others clever bits to add?
