Our Style Expert, Mary Holmes from Ruby Seven, shares her expert advice on continuing the midi dress into the A/W Season.

So now that the summer of midi dresses and skirts paired with runners is over, I have to say I am sad to see the back of such a comfy and practical trend.

Hopefully, the runner/dress look will endure another few summers but in the mean-time, is there a way to keep it going another couple of months?

Before we hit the colder weather of November, try nude tights instead of runner socks with white/light coloured runners and a midi-length skirt or dress.

Add a cosy knit for warmth or choose from the many Autumn versions of the midi dress with long or mid sleeves. Here are some of my favourites from the high street, all €50 from Zara.

Alternatively, substitute runners for mid-calf height boots. This way you can get more mileage out of the dresses you have invested in for summer. White boots are very popular this season but any neutral is good with a patterned dress.

Another Autumn trend is pairing midi dresses and skirts with knee high boots in homage to the 1970s. Not only is this a fab retro look but its very practicle for busy moms with school runs and work and creche pickups. One piece, add boots and coat and you’re out the door!

And
when it gets deeper into Winter, there are plenty of full length maxi dresses
and skirts in the stores for maximum coverage. Add a polo neck underneath for
extra warmth and extra 70’s chic!
