A TikTok user shares an easy peasy hack for removing grease stains out of plastic storage containers using just dish soap, water and some kitchen towels.

As parents, Tupperware is our best friend in the kitchen, for storing leftover food or prepping meals in advance but a bugbear for many is the horrible greasy stains left behind. Home cooks know what I’m talking about, the stains left behind from curries, stews and bolognese, and no amount of scrubbing rage will shift that orange hue.

However, now social media user Adi Kempler has revealed an awesome life hack using general household items, which she credits her stepmother for and people swear it works.

The short clip shared on TikTok is easier than you would imagine, using just washing up liquid, warm water and ripped up paper towel and some vigorous shaking with no scrubbing involved.

The cleaning hack caption reads: “So, I never post on here, but I really wanted to share this trick for getting greasy stains out of Tupperware friends. Try it!!!”

The hack is completed in four simple steps:

  1. Squirt a small amount of dish soap into the plastic container and fill it about a third of the way with warm water.
  2. Break up some kitchen towel into small pieces and add it to the stained bowl
  3. Then seal with a lid and shake the container for 45 seconds to one minute.
  4. Next, rinse the container and stain should be gone as if by magic.

The video has racked up almost four million views in just two weeks and has received thousands of comments.

One commented: “Omg, I tried this, and it actually worked, thank you, thank you, thank you.”

“This works, I’ve done it numerous times,” while another wrote.

If anyone is looking for me, I’ll be shaking Tupperware containers around the kitchen.
