Updating your sitting room doesn't have to be a big job - it can be as easy as layering rugs and adding neon cushions. Follow the trends and give it a go.

Sitting room trends change often and it is nice to have your sitting room updated with some of the latest trends. However; it isn’t the be-all and end-all either. A sitting room is the centre of the home and it is the place you may spend a lot of time in. It is good to have the sitting room in the way you like it as it will influence you and your children to spend more time there.

If you have the sitting room the way you want it but would like to add in some new influences, we have some ideas that will perfectly add to your current sitting room area. Here are some things to know aboutsitting roomtrends:

Design and theme

Funky and floral designs are equally popular, but it depends on your own preference to how you want the room to look. If you aren’t sure about going all out on the funky design, you could opt for a fun pattern in the shape of blankets, cushions or throws so you aren’t losing the run of yourself!

Lighting

Lighting options are getting more creative and adding copper or gold to lighting options is one way to dazzle. Metallics are popular and they can add a certain glamour to a room without looking tacky but don’t go overboard and choose wisely!

Rugs

Rugs are still stylish but there is another concept on the rise with layering rugs to make the room even more inviting. This is a good way to add texture to the sitting room and with the right mixture of rugs, it can look fantastic.

Updating your living room can be as easy as adding some interesting lighting and rugs.

Furniture

Scalloped chairs are the furniture of the moment and it is easy to see why. They look fantastic and they are really comfy too! One of the highlights is that you can buy them in lots of different colours and in lots of different shapes that are perfect for relaxing or reading in.

Statement art and statement ceilings

Art pieces continue to make waves in homes around Ireland and though art changes frequently, you can never go wrong with a statement piece of art for the centre of the sitting room wall. Just like statement art pieces, there is another statement piece on the way with statement ceilings. Making the most out of your ceiling is a good way to open the space up and add some of your unique character and design to it.

Colour

Colours are always big in sitting rooms but in the last few months we have seen an influx of bold and colourful seating arrangements that you can mix and match. It is a nice way to add colour to your sitting room and adopt some funky colour schemes into it. Emerald green, teal and red are gorgeous, however, some people prefer neon shades. We would advise you to be careful with this type of colours as they can cause a room to be too busy.
