In a bid to increase tourism in Laois, Laois County Council and Laois Offaly Education & Training Board have created a new Laois Passport packed with information on fun and educational days out across the county.

The booklet, which is available to download online and from each of the sites featured, was created to encourage families to get active and outdoors and to explore the heritage sites the county has to offer.

Heritage sites include the Rock of Dunamase, Timahoe Round Tower, Donaghmore Famine Museum, Emo Court, Abbeyleix Heritage House, Mountmellick Work Museum and Historic Portlaoise.
At each attraction, visitors are invited to stamp their Unravelling Laois Passport and when all seven stamps are completed, explorers will receive a certificate of completion.
To get your certificate, simply email a photo of your completed card to heritage@laoiscoco.ie with your name, school and address.
“Unravelling Laois" is part of a collaborative DEIS and Creative Ireland funded project that was run with parents across Laois.
Following all their hard work, art and writing based on their experiences visiting numerous places in County Laois, the passport was created to allow parents to bring their children to each of the sites listed during the warmer months.
Each booklet provides information about opening and closing times for each of the heritage sites. It also reminds all those taking part to be mindful of the 'leave no trace' initiative. It also says to bring a map, a camera and to wrap up warm because who knows what the Irish weather will bring.
The Unravelling Laois Passport is available to download HERE
Have you visited any of the heritage sites as part of Laois Passport? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
