One thing I do like to implement in our house is a check-list of things to do before going online or on a screen.

Children nowadays, spend a lot more time online than I ever did as a kid. This is just the world we live in now, I suppose. I go between not wanting my little ones online at all, to not wanting them to be the ones missing out when their friends are all talking about it.
One thing I do like to implement in our house is a check-list of things to do before going online or on a screen. It helps my children understand screen time is a reward and not a right. It also helps me feel that they have actually accomplished something in the day before being taken over by a screen addiction!!
Getting up, washed and fully dressed without being reminded
Standard. I like them to make their beds and also brush their teeth way before any screen time.
Making, eating and clearing away breakfast
Depending on their age of course. Eating breakfast before screens is a must. Clearing it away afterwards is age appropriate.
Getting some exercise: a swim, bike ride or jog
Some physical activity every single day is very important in a child’s developing body and mind. A walk or any other physical activity is also a must before any video games in our house.
Playing a board game/ Reading a book
Brain stimulation is also hugely important in a child’s developing brain. A board game or a few chapters of a book is a must before screen time to make sure they are having a balance of both.
Doing their chores
If your little one has a certain chore they do at home every day, before screen time is a must! When it is time to turn the screens off your little one may not be their best self (the nicest way to put it!!) So having all their “jobs” done when they are eager to get online is the best time to get it done!
