One thing every woman will remember is her first period. Full of worry and shock and even a little excitement. It's a huge milestone for any woman.

One thing every woman will remember is her first period. Full of worry and shock and even a little excitement. You don’t forget that first time or where you were - most likely at a family event or wearing all white at a friend’s house!

Another place that is common just down to the age when most girls get their first period is in school. Again, it is a strange feeling which could be made worse by asking around for a sanitary towel.

A really clever hack is to put a ‘period pack’ into your daughter’s school bag. Just a few essentials so she knows she will never be caught unprepared.

Girls can be anxious about their first period and even embarrassed about carrying sanitary products in their school bag but remind them that this could be useful for one of their friends too if they needed it.

Here are some things to include:

A small cosmetic bag

Firstly, start with what you are going to put everything in. A small cosmetics bag works well. Small enough to not take up much room in her school bag but big enough to hold all the essentials.

Wipes and sanitizer

She may be embarrassed to wash blood off her hands at the communal sinks, so hand sanitizer allows her to do whilst still in the cubicle. Baby wipes can also be used on the thighs or around the area if there is any blood (just not in the vulva).

Spare underwear

Depending on the first flow, she will more than likely need to change her underwear. You should also include a zip lock bag to pop her other underwear in to bring home.

Sanitary pads

Usually, most girls will start with sanitary pads and not tampons so include a couple in her period pack.

Pain relief

If your daughter is worried about cramps, you should include some pain relief that she can take if needed.

Chocolate

No explanation needed.
