December is an expensive month, there is no avoiding it. But one thing you can do is plan ahead and try and save a little bit at each hurdle.
Here is a list of ways you can save money this Christmas. Every little counts!
Make a list, check it twice
Make a list of all the people you need to buy for and what you want to get them, because it will help avoid a mad rush the week before Christmas picking up anything and everything from the shelves. Plus, this way you won't end up spending a fortune on an unexpected guest - because if you weren't going get them a present originally, you don't have to panic buy one at the last minute.
Special offers
Sales and special offers in-store and online can save you a fortune on your monthly spending. It might be hard if you're brand loyal but picking up the odd 'two for the price of one' deal can significantly reduce your shopping costs.
Compare prices
Particularly when it comes to gift buying, always compare prices between retailers as it may surprise you how much you could save. Sometimes the same product can be 10 or more euro cheaper in one store than another.
Don't overbuy food
Whilst you might love a turkey and stuffing sandwich on St.Stephens Day, but there is such a thing as buying too much Christmas food. Check out www.lovefoodhatewaste.com  because it'll help you get perfect portion sizes and waste less food, which is not only good for your pocket but the environment too.
Use your loyalty cards
An obvious but important one - why have a Boots Advantage/Tesco Clubcard if you never claim the points you save? Save it all year and by Christmas, you'll have a decent amount in cash to spend - or, convert it into vouchers to spend at the specific store and they often give you more.
Online shopping
Buying gifts online is another great way to cut down on their cost. Online retailers will often offer much lower prices than those you find in-store. It also stops impulse buying (guilty!!) when in store. You will go online and just buy what you need or what is on your list. Remember to always give yourself plenty of time in advance to account for delivery time.
