There is a Slimming World fakeaway recipe for just about any takeaway option you can think of.

I’m Tracey! I am a Slimming World Consultant in Tallaght but most importantly I am a Slimming World member.

I have lost five stone following the plan and words cannot convey just how much it has changed my life in every single way. I was a comfort eater, a secret eater and miserably unhappy for all of my teenage life.

Since becoming a parent something clicked for me. I want to be around for my son for as long as I can be. I don’t want him to grow up seeing food as the enemy and as a reason to hide his emotions. Slimming World has changed everything for me and I want to help others do the same.

As a Slimming World consultant, I can say first hand that a good fake-away recipe can make all the difference. They are the reason why so many members are able to resist the greasy fattening takeaways they previously indulged in more than once a week.

Fakeaways are a brilliant way to have all the flavour and indulgence of a take away without all of those syns.   The reason we limit syns on the Slimming World plan is because foods that have a syn value are foods that have caused us problems with our weight in the past.   They are foods that are very high in fat and sugar.

There is a Slimming World Fake Away recipe for just about any takeaway option you can think of but here are my top three recipes as voted by my very own members. They are full of flavour, meals the whole family will enjoy and they won’t come between you and a weight loss every week.

1. Mayflower Chicken Curry

This has got to be the most popular Slimming World Fake Away. Mayflower Curry Sauce was really difficult to get a hold of years ago when I joined Slimming World. But these days you can easily pick it up in Dunnes Stores, Supervalu, Tesco and Iceland. It is really similar to the flavour and consistency of a curry sauce from the Chinese.

Each 7g of this curry sauce works out at 1 syn and 28g (4 syns) should be more than enough for a decent portion of this curry sauce for one person. You can make this curry with whatever meat and vegetables you love but if you want to keep it authentic and similar to a Chinese curry I recommend using chicken and adding large pieces of chopped onion towards the end so that they keep their bite just like the Chinese one.

I prefer to have my speed food on the actual plate in this case. I usually steam some broccoli and fry it for a few minutes on the pan with soy sauce, garlic and Chinese five spice. You can then serve it with plain boiled rice or your own home-made egg fried rice which is super easy to make using pre-cooked rice, an egg, frozen veg and soy sauce.

2. Taco Fries

A firm favourite in my house. This recipe is just fabulous. You can take it a step further and serve in a foil tray (Mr Price) for extra Fake Away points. Simply make a batch of chilli using extra lean mince, passata (or chopped tomatoes), onion, garlic, kidney beans, vegetables and herbs like cumin, garlic and chilli powder.

Then make a batch of Slimming World chips (my method is to chip a potato, lay flat on a plate and microwave for five minutes. Then spray with Fry Light and lay flat on a baking tray where you will cook them on a medium heat for thirty minutes turning half way). When the chips are done serve the chilli on top of them. Now it’s time for the “taco sauce”.

Simply add a couple of dollops of fat-free yoghurt (or quark) to a bowl with a squirt of tomato puree (or a tablespoon of passata), chilli powder, garlic granules and a dash of lemon juice. This will be completely syn-free too. Spoon a large ladle of this sauce on top of the mince and top with your healthy extra A cheese before melting in the oven for a couple of minutes. HEAVEN.

3. A Fakeaway Mc Donalds Meal

Pick up a packet of Quorn crispy nuggets (they’re only half a syn each) and serve with Skinny Slimming World fries and a side salad. These taste IDENTICAL to Mc Donalds Chicken Nuggets (as confirmed by my child).

I serve with a side salad and a big dollop of reduced sugar ketchup for one syn. Such a treat! You can also do a Big Mac In A Bowl by frying extra lean mince with some chopped onion, salt and pepper.

Towards the end add in some chopped gherkins (pickles). Serve on a big plate of shredded iceberg lettuce with some layered processed cheese (for the real Big Mac taste – some of them can be used as your healthy extra A) and one tablespoon of Hellmans Chunky Burger sauce for 1.5 syns. It tastes uncannily like a Big Mac.

For some brilliant fakeaway inspiration I recommend giving The Daly Dish a follow. It's an amazing resource!
