This is the hotel you want to book your next mom's night away at!

Being a Mum is probably one of the most rewarding things in the world, but it can also be one of the most challenging! We all know how important it is to claim some valuable 'me-time' away from the children every now and then, but how many of us get the chance to do it?

Do you ever feel like you never get to finish a conversation when you do meet up with friends, because you are also tending to the needs of the kids?

Why not organise a night away or short break with a group of other 'Mum friends' and get a proper chance to unwind, catch up and have some well-deserved fun!
I did, at the Radisson Blu Limerick and it was one of the best laughs I’ve had in ages. Couple that with gorgeous rooms, great food, a beautiful pool and spa and a lie in until 1pm (yes people, ONE in the AFTERNOON!)

There were four of us. We chose the Radisson Blu Limerick, not only because we’d heard some great things about the hotel, but also because of its facilities and location. It’s the perfect spot if you’re meeting up with a group from Cork, Athlone, Galway, Dublin as it’s a short – medium drive for all.

We checked in and guess what? Our rooms were ready! We were already so impressed. It’s so nice to check in at check in time and not to have to hear from the receptionist that you’ve to wait for your rooms. Our luggage was whisked upstairs and we had lunch in the bar. It was buzzing for a Saturday afternoon. We shared a bottle of wine and a few toasted sambos and had the ‘chats’. It was bliss. No interruptions. No “can I go the toilet”. No “can I have crisps, can we go to the pool, and can I have the iPad”… Just a good catch up over a glass of vino and like I said, “the chats!”
We arrived into our two rooms that interconnected and it was like having a huge 2 bedroom suite to ourselves. We popped open the Prosecco and ate the cake that the hotel had kindly left in the room for us to enjoy. We ‘might’ have mentioned we were all turning 40 this year when we made the booking! But fair play to the hotel for picking up on that and having such great attention to guest information. We were genuinely blown away by the gesture. We took our time getting ready for our night out. We had showers without a toddler audience! We shared make up like we did in our twenties! We had a fashion show parading our outfits and gave each other the oooohs and awwwws we deserved. It was such a tonic, and we added a little gin from the mini bars for good measure! We ate like queens in Porters Restaurant. Gerard Costello, the Executive Head Chef and his team did not disappoint! Our starters included Chicken and Duck Liver Parfait, delicious Smoked Salmon and the two vegetarians amongst us enjoyed the Beetroot and grilled Goats Cheese Salad. The presentation and the taste were both fantastic. For mains we opted for the Hake, the Chicken and the Homemade Potato Gnocchi. The mashed potato should come with a health warning! It was so creamy and satisfying. The Clonakilty Black pudding that accompanied the chicken was the perfect way to compliment it and the girls raved about their Homemade Potato Gnocchi; commenting on what a beautiful vegetarian dish it was, as they are often left disappointed with the lazy vegetarian options on Table d’Hote menus. But not on this occasion.
After dinner, and once all the world’s problems were put to right, these 4 Irish mammys wanted to dance, and dance we did. Our waiter briskly phoned for a ride and our ‘carriage’ (taxi) took us to House Limerick for drinks and dancing! We booked a table (I highly recommend booking a table on their website and we had our own booth and waiter for the night. The music was right up our street (as in we know all the songs) and we did our dancing, talking and sipping in the comfort of our own booth!
Now for the piece de resistance! The hotel must have known there were 4 tired mums in house, because with no trouble whatsoever they agreed to a late check out until 1pm! The room service breakfast was piping hot and so fresh. It meant we didn’t even need to get out of our pj’s to have our eggs and coffee and it was such at treat to dive back under the crisp white duvet for a couple of hours afterwards. Now that’s what you call mum luxury!
In all truth, our stay was faultless. They’ve thought of everything! A few of us has some beauty essentials done in the spa after check out which was a nice addition to squeeze in before travelling home to hugs from our kids, just in time for Xfactor! So, ladies, what’s app your girls and pop onto and book your break away.
