Martinhal Beach Resort, Sagres, Portugal

Martinhal Beach Resort, Sagres, Portugal
This could be the best family friendly hotel in Europe!

Whether you have a large family - or like us, have just two kids - this is the perfect place to get away from it all, be pampered and relax in luxury on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world.

Depart Faro airport.

On the road an hour along the south coast motorway and the exits for all the big resorts have been passed, Quinta do Lago, Vilamoura, Albufeira and finally Portimao… all the usual suspects for a Portuguese holiday.

Minutes later the Algarve's Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel is reached, but first impressions convince me that the extra hop along the coast was going to prove very worthwhile. This place is impressive, or “awesome” as my seven year old told us!

Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel, in Portugal, is a family-friendly Algarve hotel offering fabulous sea views, a great choice of restaurants, and natural decor, in a cliff top location surrounded by the Costa Vicentina Nature Reserve.

Hailed as “Europe’s leading family resort” Martinhal is on the wild, windswept west coast of Portugal with fabulous views of the sea. Located in an awe-inspiring area of protected coastal beauty on the unspoiled western Algarve, Martinhal Beach Resort is a fantastic mixture of luxurious comfort and stunning nature.

Each and every inch of this large yet extremely intimate feeling resort has been designed with rest and relaxation in mind – from the beautifully appointed villas and guest rooms to the bars and restaurants, pools, shops and parklands.

A mix of private residences, holiday villas and 5* hotel rooms – Martinhal has a real feeling of community and safety about it, making it a welcoming and friendly place to holiday with the family.

Accommodation on offer
We stayed in an Ocean House offering stunning views of the sea, and although part of a resort complex, it felt very private indeed. Wait for it… the living area is upstairs and the bedrooms are downstairs, with its balcony and gardens designed to carefully maximise the sea views. Genius!

If you’re a family of three, then the hotel is also an option for you. The hotel's 38 bedrooms have their own private wooden deck terraces and an area of lawn where guests can lounge and soak in the sun and memorable sea views.

Regardless of your accommodation choice, the resort also offers complimentary wireless internet access throughout and the wide range of luxury Voya (Irish!) toiletries is another quality touch at the resort.
Within our Ocean House, every inch of the property has been furnished to a very high standard with designer pieces making this a modern, comfortable - but also a beautiful place to spend time with the family.
State of the art kitchen facilities sit in harmony with a fantastic family dining area where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or even restaurant dinners for take away! These guys have thought of everything.

And for families with small children, they have thought of that too – there is integral stair gates, soft edged furniture and a host of baby equipment and children’s toys available. You just can’t buy that peace of mind.

Kids Activities
The beaches offer calm waters for kayaking or swells for surfers.

The resort itself is so well equipped for families, with regular kids events and a countless swimming pools, play parks, tennis courts, kids club and crèche and much, much more to keep kids age 6 months right up to the teens happy. Importantly, this allows mum and dad time to use the well-equipped gym or perhaps take a treatment at their amazing Finnestra spa (also Voya products!)

Whatever your requirement, the extremely friendly and welcoming staff will do all they can to help you get the most out of your stay, making you feel at home from the get-go.

Eating and drinking
One of the best things about Martinhal is the food. It has some of the freshest, tastiest and most interesting food and wine options.

There are three main restaurants, spotted around the resort. There are also a number of relaxed bars within the resort, including the surf-style M Bar which also sells light snacks, the beach pool bar, Club 98 and the Village Square Juice Bar which is located close to the resort shop.

Overall, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to food and drink at Martinhal with each of the restaurants and bars easily living up to the five star standards of the resort overall.
