Spelt Bread

This healthy & nutritious & yummy alternative to wheat bread.
  • 200g white spelt flour
  • 200g wholemeal spelt flour
  • 25g butter room temp 
  • 1/3litre buttermilk
  • Level teaspoon of bread soda and salt
  • For the walnut bread add 2 fistfuls of chopped walnuts 
  • Seed bread –mixture of sunflower, flax and sesame seeds, about 4-5 tablespoons 
  • Mix with your hands the flours, salt, bread soda in a large bowl, make sure that you can get loads of air in to it 
  • Then add the butter, make sure that it is mixed well
  • Make a well in the middle and add the buttermilk, rinse  carton up to a half way mark  and add that too  ( the mixture should be really wet )
  • Spoon out into a 1lb tin that is greased or has tin liner 
  • Cook in hot 220c for 15 mins, then reduce the heat to 200c and cook for a further 35mins
  • Bread should be golden brown and hollow to sound, cool on wire tray.
