Well done Sesame Street who are introducing a new character with Autism
A vibrant new edition to Sesame Street will hit our screens in April 10th. Four year old Julia, has bright orange hair and wears a pink dress and has a favourite cuddly toy called Fluffster, a rabbit. The new character who has already featured in books and cartoons will now be on the screen.
Julia also has autism.
EVP of global social impact and philanthropy at Sesame Workshop, Sherrie Westin spoke to the Guardian saying “We wanted to address autism in general because of the growing number of children who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder,”
The show are creating the character in order to help children to identify with her and to explain about autism.
Sesame Street have released some clips which include their new character. We look forward to seeing Julia on our screens and say hats off to the company behind Sesame Street.
