This Subscription Box Is The Perfect Gift For Book Lovers
I'm a sucker for subscription boxes. I've had them all from Mama Moments, Glossy Box and Chic Treat, which has sadly been discontinued. However, there is a brand new eco-friendly subscription box in town and it is taking Ireland by storm.
Books and Charms is a uniquely curated box of second-hand books and other bookish gifts which gets delivered right to your door each month.
We spoke with the founder of Books and Charms, Lauren Kennedy, to find out a bit more about the subscription box service and why she set it up.
"I've always loved reading, and an Irish book subscription box is something I’ve always wanted to buy for myself," Lauren explained.
"There are ones in the UK and America which are mainly young adult fiction and the shipping costs are expensive. So I created my own Irish one as there was a clear gap in the market and I made it so that you can choose your own genre!"
To receive the magic of a second-hand bookstore right to your front door, you can sign up for a one-time delivery for €24.95, without committing to a subscription. You also have the option of signing up for three boxes which costs €22.45 a month.
Boxes are shipped the first week of each month and contain two pre-loved books, a beverage or a snack and a few little gifts to help you unwind and relax alongside your books.
Supporting other businesses, the subscription box also contains 2-3 small items from other independent business predominantly based in Ireland.
In this month's box, subscribers received their two handpicked pre-loved books, a print from Three Little Birds Illustrations, spiced truffles from The Chocolate Garden of Ireland, a hand-illustrated bookmark from Simply Su Studio and a handmade festive lip balm from an Etsy seller.
After less than two months in business, Lauren has set to expand her range in the new year with a subscription box perfect for little people. The first subscription box for children is now available on pre-order and will be rolled out in January. It is suitable for children 3 years or older.
So if you are still on the hunt for the perfect gift this Christmas why not give the gift of a book? Afterall, "books give a soul to the universe, wings to a mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything".
