Things My Child Does At Playschool But Refuses To Do At Home

There are so many things kids are doing in playschool that they refuse to do at home.

I was so delighted when my son settled happily into play-school. It was a big change all round and he adapted to it very well. I found myself bursting with pride as he arrived home with a new skill or word in his vocabulary. It's incredible to watch our little ones grow and develop so quickly.

A couple of months in I realised that there were many things that he was doing in playschool that he refused to do at home.

I'm not alone on this one as it turns out.

Here are seven things my son does in playschool that he absolutely refuses to do at home.

  • Using the toilet. He point blank refuses to use the toilet in our house and it has to be the potty. He uses the toilet at play school every single day without any questions.
  • Eating at the table. When he isn't surrounded by a group of friends he isn't willing to eat at the table. Food is eaten on the couch, on the floor, on the bed and pretty much ANYWHERE that is not the table.
  • Stay awake. If he's at play-school he is bright, alert and chirpy. He shows no signs of needing a nap. On home-days he wants to nap (and ultimately make bed-time crazy o'clock). I've started to accept that I am boring.
  • Eat curry. I've tried every single recipe including the one that they make at his play-school. It's his favourite meal while he's in there but he refuses to try it for me.
  • Tidy up his toys. I've done the “clean up” song. I've bribed him and stuck to my word but nothing seems to encourage him enough to actually tidy up. At school it's normal and he does it without an issue.
  • Arts And Crafts. He has zero interest when I suggest colouring or painting but loves it when he is at school.
  • Smile for a photo. We have a private Facebook page where the school share photos with us parents. He is always smiling happily in the photos. Point blank refuses to smile when he sees my camera.

Can you relate?
