Opinion: Stacey Solomon's Photo Of Her Stretch Marks Is So Important

Stacey Solomon has been in the media of late and in my opinion for all the right reasons.

Stacey Solomon has been in the media of late and in my opinion for all the right reasons. She is an amazing role model for young women living in the world of the “perfect Instagram post” and a great advocate for real women all over the world.
We live in a modern society where we have a preconceived idea of what we should look like and what life should be. A world where women will compare just about anything to other strangers on the internet.
There is more pressure now on women than ever before to look and even behave a certain way. Because there is so much more access into people’s personal lives than ever before.
So, when somebody comes out publicly and goes that little bit against the grain it is like a massive breath of fresh air to society. Stacey, who is expecting her third child, has been making quite a habit of doing so. She has recently been celebrating her stretch marks on holiday – and people are loving her body positivity.
The pregnant star shared - with her 1.4 million followers - a photo of herself sitting by a pool in a bikini, saying: “I honestly love how much stretch marks shine in the sun! Natural glitter.”
Fans have flocked to the comments to thank the Loose Women panellist for normalising stretch marks.
"We need more posts like this! my stomach is absolutely covered in them (second pregnancy adding to it) and sometimes it’s so depressing. Seeing more people embrace them is soooo important and comforting! Well done you for having the balls and confidence to do so. Imagine being a teenager with stretch marks and seeing this post?! What a confidence boost! X," one person wrote.
Another person quipped: "Absolutely beautiful stretch marks to so down to earth indeed," whilst a third exclaimed: "You are a true Inspiration to all girls! Flaunt it! look beautiful (I’m a mum of two) with lots of marks."
No woman’s body is perfect. Whatever “perfect” is?  Women’s bodies are significantly different after having children. Our minds and our mental health are also significantly different after having kids and the majority of new mums are left feeling vulnerable after having children. Vulnerable about their bodies and about themselves in general.
I think Solomon is absolutely amazing to be showing the true side to motherhood and showing other women and mums around the world that this is normal and okay to have stretch marks after birth or during pregnancy. And better yet to celebrate these marks as memories of who you are and where your body has been. I have huge admiration as always for Solomon normalising the aspects of being a woman we don’t talk about enough.
