Mum issues warning following the death of her newborn baby girl
Presley Trejo’s newborn daughter died at just 12 days old, and now the mum is sharing her story to ensure no family has to go through the same pain and heartbreak.

Born perfect on July 26th, Emerson Faye sadly contracted the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1) and passed away less than two weeks later.

The HSV-1 is commonly known as the cold sore virus and while it is not dangerous to adults, the immune system of young babies isn’t strong enough to fight it, and it can be fatal.

You don’t have to have an active cold sore to pass it on; a person can have the virus without any symptoms and unknowingly spread it through a simple kiss.

Presley now wants to highlight the dangers of the virus on newborns and bravely took to Facebook to share her story.

Calling it the “kiss of death” for infants, the mum-of-three explained exactly how the virus slowly attacked her daughter’s system.

“You shed the virus in your saliva and when it gets on the baby it goes through the body so fast. It attacks the brain first,” she wrote.

“It shows up as a type of meningitis. It’s fluid based around the vertebrae and goes straight to the brain. It then spreads to all their organs. It happens so fast that you don’t even know the baby is sick. I’m Emerson’s case, when we arrived at the hospital, her liver was completely gone.

“Her kidneys were right behind. Everything was failing. She was having multiple seizures until she was brain dead. Her heart stopped beating and the only thing that kept her alive were machines.

“My daughter, my own flesh and blood who I created out of love, was on life support and I had to be the one to pull the plug on her life.

“A mother should never ever have to bury their child. The virus took her at just 12 days old and we watched her die a very slow death. And now I have a lifetime without her.”

Presley is now warning others not to kiss babies that aren’t theirs and to always wash their hands when around newborns.

“Everyone needs to know about this virus and what it does to children and their families! PEOPLE!!!!" she warned.

“STOP KISSING BABIES THAT ARE NOT YOURS!!!!! WAS YOUR HANDS WHEN YOU ARE AROUND NEWBORNS!!!!! I have seen stories about other infants passing from this same virus but you never think it’s going to happen to you.

"Well this time, it did. My babies don’t have their sister and my husband and I lost our only little girl.”

Sharing photos of her beautiful little girl, the mum wrote how she now has to live a life of 'what ifs' – never seeing her only daughter go to school, graduate, get married or become a mum. Heartbroken, Presley vowed to carry on her daughter’s name and to love her until eternity.

The post has been shared more than 200,000 times with many people offering their condolences to the Trejo family.

“So, so sorry for your loss of your precious baby! My heart goes out to you! Praying for you and your family!”
