Motherhood in the raw. One mum shares reality of parenting in a series of photo's

Giedre Gomes, a photographer from Indiana created a series of photos to document the hectic reality of life as a mother.

According to HuffPost UK, the mum of two boys created the series because she was sick of logging into social media and seeing unrealistic images of parenting. She said she was fed up with the styled shots of “picture perfect” families.

In her interview, the 35-year-old said: “I wanted to show real life, reality and routine when every single day is the same,” she told HuffPost UK. “Breakfast, lunch, dinner, cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry, driving and shopping. Every single day. The same thing over and over. I wanted to show pictures that mums can relate to.”

Her aim was to make sure included all different aspects of parenting. She posted an advert on her Facebook page asking her mum friends to take part in the series who happily obliged.

She said: “I can finally take a shower alone, but most of the time my three-year-old still sits on the toilet and waits for me to be done, keeps me company,”

“I want to show that stay-at-home mums don’t sleep all day. It’s hard work.”

The end result is absolutely spot on with images of mums trying to cook dinner, shower, fold laundry and one that hits home, of a mum trying to use the loo.

She says she loves being a mum, but it’s “not always all rainbows and butterflies”.

“Motherhood is no longer having privacy, never peeing or showering in peace. Motherhood is using your shirt to wipe runny noses and dirty faces. Motherhood is learning how to do everything with one hand while carrying a baby in another.”

“But in the end, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
