We did and we were so impressed with what they had to offer
It was many years since we visited the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan and the first time we had gone with children in tow. With a 12, 9 and a 5 year old our needs to entertain our crew vary greatly. The four star hotel located in Monaghan town was just an hour’s drive from Dublin so the right distance to feel we were ‘getting away’ but not having to endure hours of chanting ‘are we nearly there yet’.
First impressions of the four star property were warm and welcoming. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who explained all about what the hotel had to offer, and there were lots to do for the kids we were told. From a family friendly leisure club, fitted with a Kids Pool and a Jacuzzi and steam room (for us adults of course) to the many amenities both indoor and outdoor both us and the kids were looking forward to kicking back and enjoying the much needed break.
The hotel has received an award for Number One Family Hotel in Ireland three years in a row by Families First and we quickly began to see why. Every staff member we met was friendlier than the next and well able to engage with children. The kids enjoyed a fun filled day in the pool, games room on the bouncy castle and the rain held off long enough for them to have a quick play on the outdoor playground.
I managed to get a little time for myself and enjoyed a facial in their Lir Spa and Wellness centre and even enjoyed a blowdry in their onsite hairdressers. In the meantime the kids spent an hour in the kids club, see below, a list of all the fun games and activities they have on offer in the club.
Feeling a million dollars I joined the rest of the family in their lively Knuttel Bistro Bar and ate from their all day menu.
After a good night’s sleep we had breakfast and took a stroll down to Monaghan town and grabbed a coffee in one of the cafes. Overall a great hotel with lots to offer for the family.
