Fun Festive Things To Do This Weekend

Fun Festive Things To Do This Weekend
By now the decorations are probably up and Christmas is in full swing so this week's events guide is all things festive!

If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend, look no further, we have something for everyone (and some of them are free)...

1. Meet the Reindeer at the Phoenix Park

The Phoenix Park rangers will be at the Papal Cross this Sunday at both 11 am and 2 pm. Here they will give a brief history of the park, home to hundreds of deer and there will be a surprise visit from Santa too. No booking is required but arriving on time is essential.

2. Winterval Illuminates

Bigger and better than last year Winterval's Waterford Illuminates is a spectacular free show for all the family. Check out the light up show on the 7th, 8th and 9th at Cathedral Sq just next to the Christmas markets. The first show takes place at 5 pm, then every 30 mins until 8 pm each night. As well as Winterval Illuminates there is storytelling, carol singing, Spraoi's Winter Wonderland, a toddler chill-out zone and numerous library events, all of which are free.

3. Farmleigh

Farmleigh has an action-packed programme this winter with events to suit all ages. Pop by the storytelling, festive crib, Christmas markets, puppet shows or why not get a hot chocolate and take in the carol singing taken place over both days this weekend.
4. The Moving Crib

Back for its 62nd year, The Moving Crib is open this every day right up until Christmas from 11 am - 6 pm. Take a fascinating journey back in time as you explore a fascinating montage of history with stories from Noah's Ark and The Wise Men.

5. Coca-Cola Truck

The famous truck will be stopping off at The Odyssey Arena in Belfast on the 6th, Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry on the 7th and The Marshes in Dundalk on the 8th of December from 2 pm - 8 pm. Enjoy a selfie and enjoy the music and games that they will put on at each of the three locations this weekend.

6. Visit Santa for FREE!

Visiting Santa can be expensive especially if you have more than one child so why not visit Santa for free this weekend.

  • Santa will be sitting at Kildare Farm Foods Saturday 8th and 9th and each child will receive a small gift.
  • Arnotts in Dublin offers free Santa visits but it is highly advised to arrive early. Each child will receive an 'I’ve Seen Santa' badge. The grotto opens from on Saturday 8th from 9 am - 7 pm and Sunday the 9th from 9 am - 6 pm.
  • Dungarvan Shopping Centre in Waterford is giving back to their loyal customers offering free Santa visits throughout the month of December. This weekend Santa will sit on the 8th and 9th and each child will also receive a free family gift.
  • Santa visits are also free in the Whitewater Shopping Center, Mahon Point Shopping Center, Blackrock Shopping Centre, Millfield Shopping Centre, Naas Town Hall, Mc Greals Pharmacy and Ikea.
7. Be a Secret Santa

For one week only Cadbury Ireland have set up a pop-up shop at 57 South William Street, Dublin 2, given families an opportunity to gift someone they love a chocolate bar by post anywhere in Ireland free of charge. The Postal Office opens every day until Saturday from 12 pm - 6 pm and everyone is welcome. Attendees will also get a chance to create their own selection box and there are hot chocolates for all. The Cadbury Secret Santa pop up shop is free, however, they do as for a donation for mental health charity Aware.
