Dublin Fire Brigade Issue Warning After Common Household Appliance Goes On Fire

Dublin Fire Brigade has issued a serious warning to homeowners after attending a fire caused by a dishwasher.

Dublin Fire Brigade has issued a serious warningafter attending a fire caused by a dishwasher in a Dublin home over the weekend.
In a post on their Facebook page, the fire fighting force is urging people not to leave dishwashers, washing machines and dryers unattended following the blaze.
They also advise people who take advantage of night-saver electricity by using common household appliances at night to make sure all internal doors are closed and to make sure their smoke alarm is in full working order.
The post reads: "Firefighters from Tallaght Fire Station fought a fire in a domestic house over the weekend thought to have originated in a dishwasher."
"Dishwashers, washing machines and dryers shouldn't be left on when you leave the home."
"If you use them at night to take advantage of a night-saver electricity, make sure that all the internal doors in your home are closed, particularly the door to the room that machine is in. Make sure you have a working smoke alarm to alert the occupants to any problem early."
"As with any electrical items, catastrophic failures like this are rare, however, simple maintenance can help prevent a problem occurring. Cleaning filters, emptying water reservoirs, and regular cleaning of the appliance itself helps. Refer to the machine's manual, or search for it online."
"If you spot smoke coming from the machine or there is a smell of burning, turn it off if possible, or turn it off at the property's consumer fuse box. Call 999/112 immediately."
It is not the first time the fire service issued a warning on household appliances.
In 2017, they issued a safety warning after another dishwasher went up in flames in a house in Dublin.
Thankfully the homeowner was able to bring the fire under control before crew arrived on the scene using a powder extinguisher minimising damage caused.
The force shared an image on their award-winning Twitter account reminding people of the importance of investing in fire safety equipment and to never leave appliances unattended.
