18 Ways To Compliment Your Child Without Mentioning Appearance

As parents, it is up to us to make sure we highlight and compliment other things about them.

As parents, we love nothing more than giving our children compliments and then watching their little face light up as they hear it.

However, many of us focus our compliments on our child’s appearance - “I love how your hair looks that way”, “that colour really suits you”, “you look really cool in that hat” etc. – and it can be something that we do without really thinking about it.

However, while meant in a nice way, it can actually force your child to subconsciously think about how they look, which is not something we want them to focus on too much. There is so much more to life than our appearance.

As parents, it is up to us to make sure we highlight and compliment other things about them.

And by changing our mind frame slightly it’s just as easy to find these things as it is to comment on their appearance.

  • You inspire me
  • You are so smart
  • You are a really lovely friend
  • You are kind
  • You make my day so much nicer
  • You never give up
  • You think outside the box
  • You are incredibly brave
  • You make me laugh all the time
  • You are wonderfully creative
  • You are so easy to talk to
  • You are a great listener
  • You are a very hard worker
  • I love how nice you are to your brother (or sister)
  • Your laugh is contagious
  • You are so selfless
  • You are generous
  • You always think of others first
  • You make me feel at ease

Why not give it a go and see how easy it actually is.
